4 Tips To Cool Your Pets When Your AC Goes Out

Blog

Summer can be miserable for your pets, especially if there's no air conditioning in your home. If the air conditioner has gone out, you'll need to get it repaired as quickly as possible. You'll also need to take some safety precautions to keep your pets cooled down until the AC can be repaired. Here are four simple steps you can take to keep your dog healthy and cool while your AC isn't working.

Take Them Outdoors

While your AC isn't working, the temperatures inside your home can get dangerously high, especially for your dogs. Until the AC repair technician can get out to your home, you might want to let your dog spend more time outside. The temperatures outside might actually be cooler than they are inside your home. This is particularly true if you have plenty of shade trees and grass for your dog.

Let Them Go for a Dip

If your dog enjoys the water, take advantage of that by setting up a pool for your pooch. Pick up a rigid plastic kiddie pool at your local department store, and set it up in your backyard. Your dog will be able to cool down in the water until your AC can get repaired.

Elevate Their Sleeping Arrangements

While the AC is out in your home, you should elevate your dog's sleeping arrangements. The bedding and the carpeting can retain heat, which can make things unbearable for your dog. Purchase a small camping cot and set it up in a corner of your house. Place a small, portable fan beside the cot. The fan will allow cool air to circulate under the cot, which will lower your dog's temperature.

Make Your Own Portable AC Unit

If your dog needs to stay indoors while the AC is out, you can set up a portable AC unit one room of your home. For this project, you'll need a plastic bowl, a bag of ice and a portable fan. Fill the bowl with ice and place it in front of the fan. Turn the fan on high and position it so that the air blows directly over the bowl of ice. The ice will cool down the air, which will provide refreshing breeze for your dog.

If your AC has broken down during the hottest part of the summer, you need to get it repaired as soon as possible. If you have dogs, you'll need to keep them cool. Use these simple tips for keeping your pets cool until your AC can be repaired. For more information contact a business such as Arnold Service Co.

Keeping up With Maintenance Between HVAC Inspections

Working with HVAC contractors is an important part of being a homeowner. Not only do your contractors ensure that a new system you buy is properly installed, but they also ensure optimal performance throughout the years through a series of regular inspections, maintenance services, and repairs. But there are lots of things you can do in between your contractor's visits to ensure that your HVAC investment is always in tip top condition, aside from cleaning out the air filters. After working with my dad for more than a decade in the HVAC business, I've put together a few methods homeowners can use to maintain a well working system, and I have published those tips and tricks right here on this blog. I hope some of the information you find here helps you on your journey as a homeowner!
