4 Tips To Help Maintain Your Ductless Heat Pump During Mildly Cold Weather

Blog

Today, more efficient HVAC designs are being installed in homes. These systems include ductless air conditioners, which today also have heat pump designs. The heat pump system is one that works like a normal AC unit but can also work in reverse to provide heating during mildly cold weather. If you have one of these newer heat pump HVAC systems, it is going to need maintenance during mildly cold weather to heat your home. Here are some ductless heat pump maintenance tips to help you when the weather starts to get cool:

1. Change the Filters and Adjusting System for Heating

The filters of HVAC systems perform important tasks; they help keep dust and dirt out of the unit and improve the air quality in your home. During the fall months, you will want to change the air filters frequently and continue this task if you use your AC heat pump for heating throughout the winter months. Regularly changing air filters will help improve energy efficiency and reduce wear of ductless heat pump AC systems.

2. Cleaning the Unit of Outdoor Debris That Can Cause Problems

During the fall months, debris can collect around AC units and cause wear. It is important to clean the unit and remove debris like leaves from trees. If you have a heat pump HVAC system, then you will want to continue the maintenance chore of removing leaves and debris from trees throughout the winter months.

3. Remove Ice and Snow During Winter Weather to Ensure Proper Operation

Ice and snow buildup on the heat pump unit can cause wear and inefficiency. If you are using your heat pump during the winter months, make sure that you remove ice and snow after any winter storms. This will ensure that the buildup of ice and snow does not cause problems with your heating and your system does not get damaged by ice when the weather is freezing outside.

4. Keep Drain Lines Clean and Free of Blockage And Debris That Can Cause Damage

The outdoor unit of your heat pump has drainage lines for condensation. These lines can become blocked with debris, which can lead to damage to the heat pump unit. Make sure that you clean the lines and clear any blockages in them when you do other maintenance like cleaning the unit. Doing this can help prevent serious damage during winter freezes.

These are some ductless heat pump maintenance tips to help you when the weather begins to get cool. If you need help with maintenance and repairs before winter really arrives, contact an AC repair service such as Bayshore Air and Heat to help you prepare for the cold weather.

Keeping up With Maintenance Between HVAC Inspections

Working with HVAC contractors is an important part of being a homeowner. Not only do your contractors ensure that a new system you buy is properly installed, but they also ensure optimal performance throughout the years through a series of regular inspections, maintenance services, and repairs. But there are lots of things you can do in between your contractor's visits to ensure that your HVAC investment is always in tip top condition, aside from cleaning out the air filters. After working with my dad for more than a decade in the HVAC business, I've put together a few methods homeowners can use to maintain a well working system, and I have published those tips and tricks right here on this blog. I hope some of the information you find here helps you on your journey as a homeowner!
